Stay Inside a Gray Malin Photograph at the Hotel Del Coronado
/Gray Malin, known for his bright and whimsical scenic photography, has taken his craft to San Diego to collaborate on a brand-new guest suite at the Hotel Del Coronado.
Malin started his career selling at a local market in Dallas. While speaking with his customers, he found that people often feel excluded by the subject of Art. To help with this, he created fun, adventure-filled, accessible work that is appealing to everyone, and at the same time, brings a jet-set lifestyle into the home.
Today, with over 70 locations under his belt, he’s taking his whimsical photography to San Diego’s Hotel Del Coronado. His new series is specifically vintage-inspired, paying homage to the 1960s. Classic cars, retro swimsuits, and colorful surfboards take you back in time to a romantic vintage resort lifestyle. With more than 20 unique images, it’s hard to choose a favorite! However, most striking are images of the famed synchronized swimmers, the Aqualillies, contrasting against the iconic red roof of the hotel’s main tower.
Collectors can purchase framed prints for their own homes, or they can enjoy the pieces on display in the new Gray Malin Oceanfront Suite at The Del. Open through December 31, 2023, the top-floor corner suite was designed by Wimberly Interiors, who were also at the helm of The Del’s recent lobby renovation.
Guests who stay in the Gray Malin Suite can expect home decor, furnishings, and, of course, artwork by Malin throughout the suite. A signed and framed mini print from the new series is also included for you to take home! The corner suite sleeps 3-4 with two private balconies, a separate living room, and a bar that seats four.
The suite’s main area is wrapped in grasscloth wallpaper, adding texture to the neutral color palette. Guests can flip through one of Malin’s coffee table books while lounging on the sofa or out on the balcony enjoying the full ocean view. The striped, scalloped window treatments were inspired by the umbrellas featured in Malin’s photos.
In the bedroom, a wood plank focal wall anchors the room around the luxurious king bed. Throughout the suite, playful throw pillows and pastel accents are a picture-perfect complement to the photography.
The suite is a part of The Views, a neighborhood offering front-row access to the beach, combined with private terraces and balconies. The Hotel Del Coronado has been a travel destination for over a hundred years, inviting guests to appreciate the past while enjoying luxe, modern amenities. Whether staying at the resort or purchasing one of Malin’s prints for your own home, you’re sure to feel the sense of wanderlust Malin portrays in his work.
